Learn and Earn

There are so many ways to win when you’re betting horse racing.  If you’re new to the game, here are some helpful tips and tricks to help maximize your investment and discover all the ways you can play.

How to Read a Program

The first thing to do when you sit down to study a race program is to consider the race factors or conditions of the race. The basic questions to ask at the start of each race analysis are: What’s the distance of the race? What’s the surface? What’s the class level, or quality of the competition in the race?

Betting An Exacta

An exacta requires bettors to correctly predict the first- and second-place finishers in a given race. When you play an exacta, you only win if the horses you pick are first and second. If your horses finish first and third, for example, that won't cut it.

Contests

Handicapping contests like qualifiers to the National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) and the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) are a different and fun way to participate in Thoroughbred racing. Learn more about the contests and the NHC with ESPN’s Chris Fallica (a.k.a “The Bear”) and learn how to play in private contests with your friends.
